Hey #Josh Team!
I'm Zach Anderson and I'm a film editor currently based in Los Angeles, California - born and raised predominately in Orange County. I attended Chapman University, where I earned my B.F.A. in Film Production with an emphasis in editing.
Over the past ten years, I have edited four feature films released theatrically, most notably Consumed (2016) starring Zoe Lister-Jones (Life in Pieces), Victor Garber (Argo), and Danny Glover (Lethal Weapon). My strength in narrative storytelling is topnotch, but I am also very well versed in editing comedy- hence my long freelance career editing for Funny Or Die for which I worked on various high profile content starring Will Ferrell, Tom Brady, Will Arnett, and Kevin Hart.
Please feel free to contact me if you need any additional information in regards to my background and/or portfolio - I am happy to share!
Favorite Narrative Films: Gone Baby Gone, Man on Fire, Ghostbusters Favorite Comedy Films: Something about Mary, The Naked Gun, Major League Favorite TV Shows: Game of Thrones, Sopranos, Californication Favorite Comedy TV Shows: Veep, American Dad!, The Office
LET'S GET DIGITAL - VICE
Let's Get Digital is a short film I edited for Vice and AT&T starring Ryan Hansen (Veronica Mars), Zoe Lister-Jones (CBS' Life in Pieces), and Jon Heder (Napoleon Dynamite). I really enjoyed working on this project because it gave me the opportunity to edit a considerably large amount of improv from crafted comedians. Through this project, I also was fortunate enough to establish a great working relationship with indie director Daryl Wein. Let's Get Digital screened at SXSW 2016.
Take Aways: Worked with improv comedians, high profile project at SXSW - Cinematography, Acting, and Direction were all on point.
WOLF GIRL - NBC
Wolf Girl was an NBC Pilot I edited starring Melissa Hunter (Shitty Boyfriends, Adult Wednesday Addams). It's about a female outcast that was raised by wolves who tries to live a normal life with unique roommates in Los Angeles. This was a very well received pilot for being such an original idea and it was executed extremely well; although it didn't get picked up, Melissa Hunter became a writer for NBC's show Maya and Marty.
Take Aways: Worked with Saturday Night Live director Michael Bernstein, NBC post production delivery requirements, Pilot Process
CONSUMED - FEATURE FILM
Consumed was my fourth feature film I edited, as well as my first feature film with Daryl Wein. The film starred Zoe Lister-Jones (Life in Pieces), Victor Garber (Argo), and Danny Glover (Lethal Weapon). Not only was I the editor of the film, but my roll also extended to Post Production Supervisor and VFX artist for this particular project.
Take Aways: Hire an assistant editor that you have worked with before.
Atropa - Short Film
Atropa, directed Eli Sasich, is a Science Fiction short film I edited, which was inspired by Alien and Blade Runner. Recently, the film was picked up by Vimeo as a web series. I found the experience of editing this well crafted science fiction film to be fun, yet also challenging - imagining VFX in a very complex green screen project definitely expanded my skillset.
Take Aways: Editing a film that was 70% green screen.
FOREVER 31 - ABC DIGITAL
Forever 31 is one of ABC Digital's strongest web series that was just renewed for a second season. This is a comedic series geared towards a younger female audience. As the editor on this series, I was able to shape and edit all the episodes of this modestly budgeted web series starring Last Comic Standing's first women winner, comedian Iliza Shlesinger.
Take Aways: Editing a large scale project with lots of moving parts, Managing notes from several executives, producers, and creators; censorship and what is allowed to be said and to be seen in the current digital market.
2016 NHL AWARDS OPENING - NHL
This is a hilarious piece I edited for the 2016 NHL Awards and it was featured as the intro sketch that kicked off the show. This one was particularly fun to edit because I dug deep into the content to edit hysterical improv by Will Arnett and Jimmy Kimmel.
Take Aways: Will Arnett is amazing at coming up with improv and Jimmy is really funny and playing along with Will's randomness.
